Trey Barkett‘s opening statement for his photography project “One Step Forward Costs Two Steps Back” hit close to home for me, and I’m sure it’ll do the same for many of our readers.
“How did we get here? Where the next logical step is for an 18 year old to decide what they want to do with their life & sign away tens of thousands in the process. This is the safe choice? The largely unquestioned choice?” writes the young photographer.
I too struggled with similar questions, but I ignored them because of pressure from my family and decided pursue a degree that has cost me a lot of time and money that I’ll never get back or even put to use once I graduate. Trey hopes that by sharing his thoughts with others alongside his amazing photographs, he can create an opportunity for people to think more deeply about the paths that they will embark on in order to reach their career goals.
“An education shouldn’t cost a lifetime” says Trey. He makes many more great points in this project, and includes photos that are sure to evoke emotion.
