The University of Akron seems to have made a huge mistake and now they have to pay the consequences. To fix a massive $60 million dollar hole in their budget, they upped the facility fee for students from $18.55 to $28.50 per credit hour. Since general and tuition fees are on a two-year freeze at the moment, the state put a big “X” on this fee increase. State officials are saying it should have never even happened in the first place, and now the University has to refund every single student. Each student will receive up to $238.80 in refunds. While the increase in facility fee would have fixed their budget hole, it seems have ended up to be more trouble than it was worth.
