Former New Orleans Saints defensive end Will Smith was shot dead on Saturday night, April 9th. The 34-year-old was involved in an apparent traffic alteraction after a Hummer H2 rear-ended him, causing Smith to hit another vehicle according to ESPN. Smith and the Hummer driver exchanged words after the incident.
Will Smith was announced dead on the scene and his wife Racquel, 34, is reportedly recovering from two gunshot to the right leg.
According to local police, they have charged the driver of the Hummer H2, 28-year-old Cardell Hayes, with second-degree murder.
Will Smith leaves behind three children.
Will Smith was drafted by the Saints with the 18th overall pick in 2004 from Ohio State. He later went on to be a key figure in their Super Bowl victory in 2010.
The Buckeye will be truly missed and never forgotten. Our prayers are will his loved ones.
